Health and safety training for your team

Classroom and online courses, from first aid to working at height, delivered by qualified trainers we arrange and certificated on completion. In-house courses can be built around your site.

Health and safety training is how the rules in your policy and risk assessments reach the people doing the work. Resilient Consult arranges courses for employers across Wigan and the North West, delivered by qualified trainers we arrange and certificated on completion. We start by asking what your people do and what your risk assessments say they need, then match courses to roles, so you are not paying to send the whole team on a course only two of them require.

Courses can run in a classroom, at your premises or online, depending on the subject and how many people need it. Practical subjects such as first aid or tower scaffolds need hands-on time. Awareness subjects such as COSHH or manual handling often suit online learning that staff fit around shifts. We keep a simple record of who has done what and when it falls due again, which assessors and clients often ask to see.

Practical courses on safe erection and use of mobile towers, ladders and access equipment, and on lifting and carrying safely.

Your legal duty to train

Section 2(2)(c) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 requires employers to provide the information, instruction, training and supervision needed to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of their employees. Regulation 13 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 adds that training must be given when people are recruited and when they face new or increased risks, repeated periodically where appropriate and given during working hours.

Some subjects have their own rules. Regulation 3 of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 requires adequate and appropriate first aid equipment and enough suitable people, and a person is only suitable if they have the right training. Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires information, instruction and training for employees liable to be exposed to asbestos, repeated at regular intervals.

We update your training matrix and remind you before certificates or refreshers fall due.

How we organise your training

Courses are delivered by qualified trainers we arrange through our specialist partners. We do not pretend to run a training centre. What we do is work out what your team actually needs, book the right courses in the right format, check that certificates are issued and keep your records straight, so you have one point of contact whatever the subject.

Because training is tied to the rest of your health and safety arrangements, we can link it to your risk assessments, method statements and policy. If a new risk assessment shows a gap, the training follows. If an accreditation assessor asks for your training records, they are already in order.

Who we do this for

  • Contractors whose site workers need CSCS cards or asbestos awareness
  • Employers appointing first aiders and fire wardens
  • Maintenance and facilities teams working at height
  • Warehouses and workshops with manual handling tasks
  • Schools, care providers and offices building wellbeing support
  • Firms gathering evidence for an SSIP application

Questions about health and safety training

All questions

Can you deliver courses at our premises?

Yes, for most subjects. On-site courses suit groups and let the trainer use your own equipment, stairs, racking or access towers, which makes the learning easier to apply. Practical courses need a suitable room and space for hands-on work. Send us the details of numbers and location and we will confirm what can be run on site.

Is online training acceptable?

For awareness subjects such as COSHH, manual handling or fire safety awareness, online courses are a practical way to reach staff on different shifts. Some subjects need hands-on assessment and are run in a classroom instead, and some clients or schemes ask for a particular format. We will tell you which format suits each course before you book.

How many first aiders do we need?

The First-Aid Regulations require adequate and appropriate provision for your circumstances, which you decide through a first aid needs assessment. It depends on your headcount, the hazards of the work, shift patterns and how far you are from emergency help. A low-risk office may need different cover from a construction site. We can help you work it out before booking courses.

Do you build courses around our own work?

Yes. Bespoke in-house sessions use your risk assessments, method statements and site rules, so staff learn the controls that apply to them rather than generic examples. They are useful for inductions, toolbox talks, new equipment and changes to how a job is done. They are delivered by qualified trainers we arrange and certificated on completion.

Who actually carries out the surveys and works?

We scope, manage and check every job ourselves. Specialist parts, such as fire surveys and remedial works, asbestos surveys, legionella assessments, training and alarm installations, are carried out through vetted specialist partners who hold the relevant qualifications and third-party certification for that work. You see their certificates. We remain your single point of contact and check both the work and the paperwork before it reaches you.

Do you work with contractors?

Yes. We help contractors with risk assessments and method statements, COSHH assessments, written policies and preparation for SSIP schemes such as CHAS, SafeContractor and Constructionline. On projects we can support clients and principal contractors with CDM duties, and we work alongside main contractors when managing fire remedials, so the people on site have clear information and the right paperwork before they start.
