Health and safety consultants for Salford’s high-rise and regeneration
Salford is building upwards at the Quays, Greengate, the Crescent and Middlewood Locks. We support the people who own, manage and build those blocks, along with schools, workshops and older terraces.
For building owners and contractors seeking health and safety consultants in Salford, the biggest questions now often concern height. Resilient Consult, a Wigan-based consultancy, provides fire safety, health and safety and construction support across the city from one point of contact. We work with residential managing agents, housing providers, developers, education buildings and businesses around the Quays and Chapel Street, and in the outer towns of Eccles, Swinton, Walkden and Irlam.
Much of Salford’s work sits where fire safety and construction overlap: remediation of external walls, firestopping in new blocks, front doors that residents have swapped, and refurbishment of occupied buildings. We arrange specialist surveys and remedial works through vetted partners who hold the relevant third-party certification, then check the work and the paperwork so you can show a regulator or lender what was done.

Fire safety and compliance
For residential blocks of 18 metres or seven storeys and above, we help responsible persons line up fire risk assessments, fire door checks and the records the higher-risk building regime expects.
Health and safety
Housing providers and estate teams get support with contractor control, asbestos management in common parts and legionella risk assessments for communal water systems.
Construction consultancy
On new towers and refurbishments we provide Principal Designer and project management services, with firestopping inspection arranged before linings close up.

Tower blocks old and new
Salford has lived with high-rise housing for decades. A 1960s programme built more than 30 tower blocks to replace Victorian slums, many of those blocks were demolished in the 1990s, and terraces in Seedley and Langworthy were later cleared for replacement housing. Today’s towers are a different generation: the Greengate redevelopment includes Salford’s tallest blocks, and Middlewood Locks is growing around the restored terminus of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal.
At the Quays, dockland that opened beside the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894 now holds MediaCityUK, offices and apartments. Up the Irwell, the Crescent masterplan, a partnership between the city council, the University of Salford and a development partner, plans thousands of homes and research space around the campus. Salford Royal Hospital, which began as an infirmary at Hope in the 1880s, was redeveloped under a PFI contract completed in 2012.

Questions from Salford clients
All questionsHow do we know whether our Salford block is a higher-risk building?
For buildings already occupied, the test is a height of at least 18 metres or at least seven storeys, together with at least two residential units. Meeting either the height or the storey test is enough, and storeys below ground are not counted. A block that qualifies falls under the Building Safety Act 2022 regime, with duties on top of the fire risk assessment. We check the measurements and drawings with you and set out what applies.
Residents in our Salford flats have replaced their own front doors. Is that a problem?
It can be. Since the Fire Safety Act 2021, the Fire Safety Order covers doors between flats and common parts in buildings with two or more homes, so the responsible person must consider them in the fire risk assessment. A replacement door may lack the fire resistance, self-closer or seals the original had. We arrange a fire door survey through a certified partner, record each door’s condition and plan repairs or replacements.
We are refurbishing an occupied block near Chapel Street. How do we keep residents safe during the works?
Plan it before the contractor arrives. The pre-construction information should set out escape routes, alarm isolations, hot works controls, storage and access for residents with mobility needs. Temporary fire arrangements must be agreed with whoever holds the fire risk assessment for the building. As Principal Designer or client adviser we co-ordinate those details, and we check during the works that the arrangements are still being followed.
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in Wigan and work across the North West, including Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire. That covers towns such as Bolton, Warrington, St Helens, Preston and Chorley, as well as Manchester and Liverpool. For larger jobs or multi-site clients we can work further afield on request. Send us the details and we will tell you straight away whether it is something we can take on.
